Matchpilot — Privacy Policy

Matchpilot is a Chrome extension that helps you apply to jobs faster: it autofills application forms from your resume and drafts tailored cover letters. This policy explains exactly what data the extension handles, where it is stored, and who it is shared with.

Summary (the short version)

• Matchpilot stores your data in your own browser (Chrome local and Chrome sync storage). We do not operate any server that collects your data.
• Your resume content and the job-page text are sent only to Anthropic (the AI provider) using your own API key, to power resume parsing, autofill, and cover letters.
• Your Anthropic API key and your original resume file never leave your device.
• We do not sell your data, show ads, run analytics, or track you.

What data Matchpilot handles

Depending on how you use the extension, it may handle:

• Your Anthropic API key — the credential you enter so the extension can call the Anthropic API on your behalf.
• Your resume — the file you upload, the text extracted from it, and a structured profile (name, contact details, work history, education, skills) derived from it by the AI.
• Application answers — optional responses you save for common application questions (e.g. LinkedIn/GitHub URLs, work-authorization and sponsorship answers, and, if you choose to provide them, voluntary self-identification details such as pronouns, gender, race/ethnicity, veteran status, and disability status).
• Job-page content — when you use Autofill or Generate cover letter on a job or application page, the extension reads the page's text and form fields so it can match and fill them.

Where your data is stored

• On your device (chrome.storage.local): your Anthropic API key and your original resume file bytes. These are never synced or transmitted anywhere except to Anthropic (see below).
• In your Chrome sync storage (chrome.storage.sync): your structured resume profile and your saved application answers. This uses Chrome's built-in sync, tied to your own Google/Chrome sign-in, so your profile and answers are available on your other devices where you are signed in to Chrome. This data lives in your Google account's Chrome sync — it does not pass through any server operated by us.

What is shared with third parties

Matchpilot sends data to third parties only to provide the features you invoke, and only using credentials you supply:

• Anthropic (Anthropic PBC) — When you process a resume, autofill a form, or generate a cover letter, the extension sends the relevant resume content and job-page text to the Anthropic API (api.anthropic.com) using your API key, to generate the result. Your use of Anthropic is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy: https://www.anthropic.com/legal/privacy
• Optional — job-match scoring (off by default): Matchpilot includes an optional match-scoring feature that, if you enable and configure it, sends job-page text and your resume profile to OpenAI through a relay endpoint you deploy and control. This feature is disabled in the current version. If it is enabled in a future version and you configure it, that processing is governed by OpenAI's privacy policy (https://openai.com/policies/privacy-policy) and by the terms of the relay you deploy.

We do not send your data to any other third party, and we do not send it to any server operated by the developer of this extension.

What Matchpilot does NOT do

• We do not operate a backend server that receives or stores your data.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your data for advertising.
• We do not run analytics, telemetry, or user tracking.
• We do not submit application forms for you — Matchpilot fills fields; you always review and submit yourself.

Permissions and why we request them

• Storage — to save your API key, resume, and answers in your browser (local and sync), as described above.
• Access to supported job/application sites — the extension's content script runs only on a fixed list of major applicant tracking systems and job boards (e.g. Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, iCIMS, Workable, BambooHR, SuccessFactors, LinkedIn, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Wellfound). On those sites it detects job and application pages, shows its panel, and — only when you click Autofill or Generate cover letter — reads the job description and form fields to fill them. It does not run on other websites you visit.
• Active tab — lets the extension act on the current tab when you invoke it.
• Access to api.anthropic.com — so the extension can call the Anthropic API with your key.

Sensitive information

Voluntary self-identification answers (pronouns, gender, race/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status) are entirely optional. If you choose to save them, they are stored the same way as your other application answers (in your Chrome sync storage) and are used only to autofill matching fields on applications you choose to fill. You can leave them blank, edit them, or clear them at any time.

Your controls

• Edit or delete: Open the extension popup to view, change, or clear your API key, resume, and answers at any time.
• Clear all: The "Clear all saved data" button removes your saved data from this browser and from your Chrome sync storage.
• Uninstall: Removing the extension deletes its local data from that device.
• Chrome sync: You can also manage or clear synced extension data through your Google/Chrome account settings.

Data retention

Matchpilot keeps your data only until you clear it or uninstall the extension. We have no server-side copies to retain, because we do not operate a data-collecting server.

Children

Matchpilot is intended for job seekers and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how the extension handles data, we will update this policy and its "Last updated" date, and reflect the change in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
